Movie Review - The Hangover

Movie Synopsis - The Hangover
Movie Trailer - The Hangover

I heard about this movie for quite some time already. It is not a new movie but because the sequel is coming out so I decided that I should watch part 1 before watching part 2. Well, the movie turn out to be quite an entertaining movie. :)

The story of the whole movie revolved around 4 men and only at one place. Somehow, the plot of the movie was arranged so nicely that it didn't seem to be very draggy. There were many events happening in the movie that kept the viewers anticipated for the next scenes. While one clue lead to another, there was always a surprised factor in every new findings. Somehow I felt that the ending of the movie was so so because after so many events, only they realized that their friend dropped them a hint at the beginning of the movie. Anyhow, the movie was very entertaining. I laughed at most of the scenes and I didn't find the movie very draggy at all.

There was nothing much to comment on the acting because it was a very straight forward movie. We do not need much acting skills to capture the attention of viewers. We do not need much facial expressions to tell what the movie was all about. So, there isn't much to talk about acting. Bradley Cooper was as usually hot. My gay friend was drooling all over and insisted that he will watch all Bradley Cooper movie.

Script wise was good. The dialogues were not very memorable but they were funny. Script was well written and undeniably entertaining! I could say that the whole movie ran according to the script. Without the script, I think the movie will be very draggy and most probably I will fall asleep at the half hour mark.

Overall, the movie deserved some credits because it was really entertaining. I rate it 2/5.

Movie Review - No Strings Attached

Movie Synopsis - No String Attached
Movie Trailer - No Strings Attached

I know this is not a new movie but I've always wanted to watch it. Jas and me planned to watch it early this year but it didn't happen. We were very packed especially when this movie was released early this year. I only managed to watch it over the weekend when at last I could find time for myself.

The plot of the movie was good. It had a sweet ending to it. The ending that many people would envy. I quite like the flow of the movie. It was very smooth. All the transition in the movie; from meeting each other to a no commitment relationship and how they started to fall for each other. I find the flow very nicely arranged. I'm sure even the viewers could feel the love while watching the movie.

This movie boast two very good looking celebrities. Natalie Portman and Ashton Kutcher! Oh man... Both are seriously good looking people. Even when they were in their most simple outfit, they look so outstanding. There was no way you couldn't spot them when you see them on the road. They were simply too good looking. Both Natalie Portman and Ashton Kutcher displayed quite a normal performance in the movie. I found Ashton Kutcher's acting more outstanding in this movie comparing to the Academy Award Best Actress, Natalie Portman. More feelings were required in Ashton's role as well.

The script in the movie was hilarious. Most of the dialogues were really catchy and funny. The most epic one was the one where Adam (Ashton Kutcher) said Emma (Natalie Portman) was a miniature and she fights like a hamster. I was laughing out really loud. You can see that scene at the end of the trailer as well. There were a lot of emotional dialogues exchanged in the movie. From sweet talking to intense serious relationship talk and in the end both accepted each other.

The ending part when Adam took Emma hand was the sweetest. She asked him what's next and he took her hand. I love happy ending.

Overall rating, 2.3/5.

Movie Synopsis - The Hangover

Movie Review - The Hangover
Movie Trailer - The Hangover

Doug (Justin Bartha), Phil (Bradley Cooper), Stu (Ed Helms) and Alan (Zach Galifianakis) travelled to Las Vegas for Doug's bachelor party. Doug will be marrying Tracy (Sasha Barrese) in a few days time. Alan is Tracy's brther. Doug took his father-in-law's Mercedes and drove to Las Vegas. They stayed in a suite at Caesars Palace.

On the night, they all went to the rooftop of Caesars Palace and had a toast for Doug who was about to get married. The following morning, Phil, Stu and Alan woke up with no memories on what happen the previous night and they couldn't find Doug. Stu had a missing tooth, their hotel suite was in a messed, there was a tiger in their bathroom, and a baby in the closet. On the way out to find Doug, they saw Doug's mattress stuck on a statue outside of their hotel. When they ask for their Mercedes, the valet drove a police car for them.

Picking up from the clues that they found, three of them arrived at the hospital and they found out from the doctor that they were drugged with rohypnol on the night before, causing them to lose their memory. The doctor also told them that when they came, they were talking about a wedding at a nearby chapel. They went to the chapel and Stu realised that he was married to a stripper named Jade (Heather Graham). He was all stressed up because he had a long-term girlfriend, Melissa (Rachael Harris) back at home. While they were leaving the chapel, they were attacked by 2 men who kept asking them about the location of a man whom they didn't know who was it. They managed to escape the assault and went to visit Jade. She was the mother of the baby. While they were talking, the police rushed into the house and arrested the trio for stealing the police car.

The police told them that the Mercedes had been impounded. They were relieved to hear that. The trio also begged the police to release them. They made a deal with the police to volunteer themselves to be targets for a taser demonstration. After the demonstration, they were released by the police. While driving away with the Mercedes, they heard noise coming out from the back of their car. They opened up the trunk of the car and a naked man jump out. The naked man started to attack them with a crowbar as soon as he saw them. After hurting all of them, he ran away. Feeling guilty, Alan admitted that he was responsible in drugging their drinks because he wanted them to hava a good night. The guy who sold him the drug told him that it was Ecstacy. Phil and Stu got very pissed with Alan but the most important thing for them to do at the moment was to find Doug.

They went back to their hotel suite and found Mike Tyson in there. Apparently, the tiger in the bathroom belonged to Mike Tyson. They were ordered to return the tiger to his mansion immediately. In order to get the tiger into the car, they had to drug the tiger. After drugging the tiger, they put the tiger in the car and drove to Mike Tyson's mansion. While they were driving, the tiger woke up and attacked them. They jumped out of their car immediately. They had to push the car all the way to Mike Tyson's house while the tiger was biting on the car's interior.

When they reached Mike Tyson's house, he showed them the video of them stealing the tiger and they saw Doug in it. After they left Mike Tyson's mansion, a car intentionally knocked on to their car, pushing them off the road. The passengers in the car came out and it was the gangster they met earlier. Their boss was Leslie Chow (Ken Jeong). He was the naked man who came out from their trunk. He accused them of stealing $80,000 from him and kidnapped him. Chow told them that he had their friend and demanded to get back his $80,000 if not, he will kill their friend. They went back to the hotel suite and frantically search the whole suite but they couldn't find the money. Alan found his gambling guide book and they decided to go to the casino to win the money. With help from Phip, Stu and Jade, Alan used the knowledge he learnt from the book to win $82,400 in Blackjack. They met up with Chow and gave him the money to exchange for their friend. When Chow released their friend, they found out that it was the wrong Doug (Mike Epps), the drug dealer who sold Alan the roofies.

With only a couple of hours left before the wedding, Phil decided to call Tracy to admit that they couldn't find Doug. Stu who was talking to "Black Doug" suddenly thought of where Doug might be. They rushed back to their hotel and found Doug on the rooftop of the hotel. Stu, Alan and Phil played a prank on Stu by moving him to the rooftop while he was asleep on the mattress. The mattress they saw earlier on the statue was thrown down from the rooftop by Doug as a signal for help.

Before they left, Stu arranged to have a date with Jade on the following week. They rushed to the airport with less than four hours before the wedding and there were no flights available. The four of them race home and Doug told them that he had Chow's $80,000 with him. They arrived just in time for the wedding. Doug and Tracy got married while Stu broke up with Melissa. After the reception, Alan found Stu's camera that captured all the memories that they couldn't remember. The four agreed to look at the photos together and erased it after that.

Movie Synopsis - No Strings Attached

Movie Review - No Strings Attached
Movie Trailer - No Strings Attached

The movie opened with Emma meeting Adam at a summer camp during their teenage years that ended with Emma saying no when Adam asked if he could finger her. Ten years later, Adam (Ashton Kutcher) and Emma (Natalie Portman) met at a party at the University of Michigan. Emma invited Adam to go to her father's funeral with her. After they parted ways, Emma and Adam met again at a market in Los Angeles. Adam was there with his girlfriend, Vanessa (Ophelia Lovibond) and his best friend Eli (Jake M. Johnson) while Emma was there with her sister, Katie (Olivia Thirlby) and her best friend, Patrice (Greta Gerwig) Emma was a doctor at a local hospital while Adam was a production assistant for TV-shows. This time, asked for Emma’s contact number.

One day, Adam found out that his father (Kevin Kline) was in a relationship with his ex-girlfriend Vanessa. He became distress and upset. Adam started calling every woman in his cell phone to ask if they wanted to have sex. One morning, he woke up and found himself naked in the house of Emma. He thought that he had sex with Emma's house mate. He then found out from Emma that he was so drunk the night before that he text-messaged Emma and he came to her house that she shared with a few doctors including Emma's best friend Patrice, Shira (Mindy Kaling) and Guy (Guy Branum). Emma then told Adam that his pants was in her room. He went to her bedroom and the two ended up making love.

After sex, Emma proposed to Adam that they should be sex buddy. They will just meet up to have casual sex with each other and she didn't want their relationship to become too serious. Things went well at first but then Adam started to get jealous of Emma because she got too close with another doctor, Sam. Although Adam denied that he was jealous, Adam started giving her sweet gifts in which she found it uncomfortable.

One day, Adam was stressed up because his father invited him to have dinner with Vanessa and him on Adam’s birthday. He asked Emma to accompany him to the dinner. During the dinner, Adam's father and Vanessa announced that they’re planning to have a baby together. Adam was so upset with the decision, he started slamming his head against the table. Emma was shock by their decision and found it ridiculous. She scolded them for being childish. She took Adam and stormed out of the restaurant. Adam was touched by Emma's action and eventually convinced her to go out on a date with him on Valentine’s Day. The date went well until Adam confessed his feelings to Emma. Emma was angry with Adam and hurt with words. Adam was disappointed and sad over Emma's answer to his confession.

The movie then zoomed to six weeks later. The script that was written by Adam earlier was submitted by Lucy (Lake Bell), the production assistant on the show. The script was approved and after the successful filming, Adam got the job as a writer for the show. Meanwhile, Emma started to miss Adam. She found out from her sister, Katie that their widowed Mother (Talia Balsam) had a boyfriend and he will be attending Katie's wedding. On the night before her younger sister Katie's wedding, her sister told her to call Adam and tell him how she felt for him.

Emma called Adam when Adam was in the studio being congratulated by everyone because of the successful filming of his script. Emma number was named "Do Not Call Her" in Adam's mobile. Adam hesitated before he answered her call. When he answered her call, Emma told Adam that she missed him but Adam didn't want to talk long as he was still at work.

After she hung up, Emma realized that she really wanted to be with him. Her sister encouraged her to drive down to his house to see him. When she arrived at his house, Adam was not home. Soon after that, Adam came home with Lucy. Emma hid in the bushes and assumed that Lucy was Adam's new girlfriend. Emma snuck out from the bushes quietly and drove away tearfully.

In the house, Adam and Lucy were trying to make out. While they were making out, Vanessa called Adam and told him that his father was in the hospital. Emma who was crying and driving, received a text message from Shira, saying that Adam's father was in the hospital.
As Adam arrived at the hospital, Vanessa told Adam that his father wad admitted to the hospital after having overdozed on Purple Drank. She also confessed that she didn't want to be with an older man. She gave her dog to Adam and left for a party. Adam told his father about Vanessa and after seeing that his father was fine, he told him that he will call him the next day.

On the way out of the hospital, Adam called Emma. Adam told Emma that if she wanted to tell him that she missed him, she could just text him, email him or write on his wall. She need not called just to say she miss him. He demanded that he wanted to see her now. After he said that, he saw Emma's car and she got down from her car. Emma told Adam about her feelings for him. Adam who was still in love with Emma was overwhelmed by happiness after hearing her confession. They reconciled. They next morning, they went to Emma’s sister’s wedding. When they reached there, Emma asked, “So, what happens now?”. Adam held her hand.

At the end of the movie, it was shown that Lucy and Adam's father was in the restaurant waiting for Adam to come. Eli and Patrice met up with Eli's two gay dads. Vanessa was shown to be in an elevator with a bunch of old people. Sam was telling Shira that he wanted to see other people and she responded that she had been seeing many people. Emma was later shown as the delivery doctor to her sister Katie. Guy and Sam was sneaking into the on-call room. The movie concluded with a scene of Adam and Emma snuggling together to sleep on the bed.

Movie Synopsis - Captain America: The First Avenger

Movie Review - Captain America: The First Avenger
Movie Trailer - Captain America: The First Avenger

The movie opened in the present day, a group of scientists went to the Arctic and saw an unidentified ship buried under the ice. They entered the ship and saw a shield looking object with red, white and blue colour on it.

The movie then went back in time to March 1942, Nazi officer Johann Schmidt (Hugo Weaving), leader of Nazi science division, Hydra and his men stormed into a church at Tønsberg, Norway and forcefully took away a mysterious tesseract which was believed to possess unlimited powers. While in New York City, Steve Rogers (Chris Evans) was rejected in his application to join the army to fight World War II due to his various health issues and physical conditions. He was small, skinny and frail looking.

Later that night, his friend Bucky Barnes (Sebastian Stan) invited him to attend an exhibition of future technologies organized by Stark Industries. There, Rogers attempted to apply for military duty again. However, Dr Abraham Erskine (Stanley Tucci) overheard Rogers and Bucky's conversation and he offered to help Rogers to get a place in the army. Rogers was recruited as a candidate for a "super-soldier" experiment under Erskine, Colonel Chester Phillips (Tommy Lee Jones) and Peggy Carter (Hayley Atwell). After a series of tests, Rogers was shortlisted and high recommended by Dr Erskine to be the chosen one for the "super soldier" experiement. At first, Phillips was not very convinced with Erskine's decision but after witnessing Rogers self-sacrificing bravery, he agreed that Rogers was the best candidate to conduct the experiment on. On the night before the experiment, Erskine told Rogers that Schmidt underwent a similar experiment like the one Rogers would be going through but Schmidt version was the imperfect version. After the experiement, Schmidt became a super-human but he suffered from side-effects.

In Europe, Schmidt and Dr. Arnim Zola (Toby Jones) were successful to harness the energy of the tesseract. Schmidt intended to use the power he got from the tesseract to conquer the world. Schmidt also managed to locate Erskine and he sent an assassin to kill him.

In America, Rogers underwent for the super-soldier experiment. He was injected with a special serum and he was placed in a machine that will exposed him to "vita-rays". During the experiment, Rogers screamed in pain and the scientist wanted to abort the plan but Rogers insisted to continue with the experiment. When the procedure was done, Rogers emerged from the machine in his new physical appearance. He became taller and muscular. When everyone came down from the observation room to congratulate Dr Erskine, one of the attendees shot and killed Erskine. It was the assassin sent by Schmidt to kill Erskine. Rogers chase after the assassin and managed to capture the assassin but the assassin committed suicide by biting a cyanide capsule which was hidden in his mouth to avoid being interrogated.

With Erskine's death, the super-soldier formula was lost forever. Rogers would be the only alive sample to proof the success of the serum. U.S. Senator Brandt (Michael Brandon) who was there to see the transformation of Rogers, invited him to tour the nation in a colorful costume and named him "Captain America" to promote war bonds rather instead of being confined to a lab for scientists to attempt to rediscover Erskine's formula.

One day, during his tour, he went to the unit where Bucky was supposed to be in. He found out that Bucky's unit was defeated by Schmidt's forces in a battle. He refused to believe that Bucky was dead. Rogers went on a solo rescue mission with the help of Peggy and Howard Stark (Dominic Cooper). Howard Stark flew the plane to bring him into the enemy's territory. Rogers muscled him way in to Schmidt's HYDRA organization. First, he freed the other captured soldiers and then he went for Bucky who was on an operation table in Schmidt's room. As soon as Schmidt found out that Rogers had arrived in his factory. he took the tesseract and ran away. Rogers went around the area to search for Schmidt. When he found Schmidt, Rogers confronted Schmidt. Schmidt revealed his true feature by removing his human face mask. His real feature was red-colored, skull-like face that's why he was known as the Red Skull. Schmidt ran away in a plane after detonating all the explosive in his factory. Rogers and Bucky met up with the rest of the freed soldiers and they all walked back to the base.

Rogers who briefly saw the attack plan of Red Skull went back and told Phillips about it. Rogers was willing to lead a group of brave soldiers to Red Skull's base to stop his invasion plans. Rogers recruited Bucky, Dum Dum Dugan (Neal McDonough), Gabe Jones (Derek Luke), Jim Morita (Kenneth Choi), James Montgomery Falsworth (J. J. Feild), and Jacques Dernier (Bruno Ricci) into his team of brave soldiers. Their mission was to destroy all the other known Hydra bases. Stark provided Rogers with a new outfit and a shield made of vibranium, which was able to reduce a significant amounts of damage by absorbing vibrations. Rogers and his team attacked and destroyed all of Hydra's bases.

The team then tried to get Zola to gain more information regarding Red Skull. They attacked the train carrying Zola in it. Rogers and Bucky went into the train to search for Zola but they were ambushed upon enterting the train. They were attacked. During the assault, Rogers defeated the Hydra army but Bucky fell of the train. However, he managed to capture Zola.

Phillips interrogated Zola and found out the location of Schmidt's final base. Rogers led an attack on Schmidt's final base to stop him from using his tesseract powered weapons to cause more harm to the citizen. When Red Skull found out that Rogers was in his base, he took the tesseract and attempted to run away again. This time, Rogers grabbed on to Schmidt's jet before it flew off. Rogers entered the jet and fought with Schmidt. During the fight, Rogers broke the tesseract's container. So, Schmidt used his hand to hold on to the tesseract. As soon as he held the tesseract, he got dissolved in a bright light. The tesseract then fell to the floor of the plane, melted through the surface and fell on to Earth.

As there were a lot weapons in the plane, Rogers didn't want to take the risk of landing it in on the airport. He chose to crash the plane in the Arctic. Stark later found the tesseract from the floor of the ocean but he couldn't find the jet that Rogers was on.

Rogers then woke up in a hospital room. He felt something was wrong because the game on the tv was a game that he had attended. He ran outside and he found himself in a strange place. He travelled through time and came to present day. There Nick Fury (Samuel L. Jackson) informed him he had been sleeping for nearly 70 years.

In a post-credits scene, Fury went to find Rogers. He told him that he had a mission for him and also a new team for him.

Movie Review - Captain America: The First Avenger

Movie Synopsis - Captain America: The First Avenger
Movie Trailer - Captain America: The Fist Avenger

Woot Woot Woot! At last! My favourite comic hero of all time is here! Captain America! I've always been a fan of Captain America! He is my all time number one selection among all the Marvel heroes! Well, because he is my all time favourite, I've got a little expectation for the movie. Honestly speaking, the movie didn't quite live up to my expectation.

The story line of the movie was okay. As it was an introduction to the character, there wasn't much action in the movie until the 2nd half of the movie. Most of the movie was about his life before he got into his action packed life. The flow of the movie was good. From him entering the army, going through the operation, being made a performer, proving his ability by storming the enemy base alone and defeating the bad guy in the end was just a line of good flow.

I felt that Chris Evans was not manly enough for the role. He had a very boyish look. Moreover, viewers will always compare him to his role as the Human Torch. I personally think he was more suitable as The Human Torch. He is not manly enough to be my hero! Even though with his solid chest and his 6 pack abs, that doesn't make him any manly. They should put Hugh Jackman or Daniel Craig there. Those two look more Captain America. Nevertheless, I was quite amazed on how they managed to put Chris Evans face into that small skinny body. I knew it was CG but it looked real. The size of the head and the body was proportional.

I find that small little romance between Peggy (Hayley Atwell) and Rogers (Chris Evans) unnecessary. It felt like a fan service to me. To me, Peggy was not even necessary to be in the story. The friendship between Bucky (Sebastian Stan) and Rogers deserved to be elaborated. Colonel Chester Phillips (Tommy Lee Jones) got the funniest lines in the movie. I think he is the manliest man in the movie. Oh man... young actors these days are just not manly enough!

Red Skull (Hugo Weaving) was the most useless villains ever! All he ever did in the movie was running away with the Tesseract. Every time he saw Captain America , he will run away with the Tesseract. He claimed that he had the power of God but he was too afraid to face the captain. His army also look so normal. The only different was the disintegrating gun that were powered by the energy from the Tesseract. Besides that, there were literally useless. The machine-looking guy with the fire gun looked super awkward in his suit. I don't find him any more powerful comparing to the other guy in the Hydra army. Instead, I find him very clumsy looking.

Nothing much to talk about the script. Most of the lines in the movie was explanation and explanation. As mentioned earlier, most of the cheeky lines comes from the experienced Tommy Lee Jones.

In overall, the movie was just slightly better than Thor. There were more substances in this movie comparing to Thor. However, we need more action fighting scenes in Captain America. Except for the last "fight" between Red Skull and Captain America, most of the action packed scene in the movie was just snippets of him fighting. I think for his capacity, the captain deserved a more vicious and fearless enemy instead of the forever-running-away-with-the-Tesseract Red Skull.

I love his shield! I think that's the coolest weapon ever!

Overall rating, 2.5/5. Sigh....

Movie Review - Take Me Home Tonight

Movie Synopsis - Take Me Home Tonight
Movie Trailer - Take Me Home Tonight

I saw the trailer for Take Me Home Tonight a few months ago. When I first saw the trailer, I told Jas that I like the feel of the movie. Let me elaborate more on the feel. It feels like a musical comedy. I've always been a fan of musical comedy. Moreover, the set up of the movie is in the 80s! I love oldies! Especially the late 70s to early 90s. When I found out that the movie was out, I told Jas that we need to watch it.

The plot of the movie was very normal. Nothing extraordinary nor shocking but the movie was super fun entertainment! I love the flow of the movie. Every scene was just the correct dosage to keep the viewers entertained. The jokes in the movie was not that funny but the funny things they did in the movie was really entertaining. Yup! I got it! The right word to describe the story line of this movie is entertaining. It was a very entertaining movie! The feel of the movie was so 80s! I love it!

The actors of the movie really suits their character. Topher Grace always have that 70s feel because of That '70s Show. Oh... I love that sitcom. Teresa Palmer was a real hottie. In the movie, she did mentioned that she still have her job because of the boob factor. Her boss had always wanted to see her boobs. Well, who wouldn't want to see hers! She was incredibly hot! Dan Fogler was really funny. He was so catchy in the movie that you will relate him to all the fun factor in the movie! I couldn't recognise Anna Faris! Did she put on weight? I think it's her hair colour.

Nothing much to comment on the script of the movie. No catchy lines. There were one or two attempts on good lines but still not good enough for me to remember. I think the whole morale for the movie was for us to take a shot in anything that we want to do. Just do it! Hesitation is just an excuse for us to procrastinate. The next line is dedicated to all you lazy worm out there! Procrastination is like masturbation. In the end, you are just fucking yourself! Haha! I love this saying!

I've got one suggestion for the movie though. Please refer to line number 4 in the first paragraph. "It feels like a musical comedy." This movie is not a musical comedy. There were only songs and music once in a while as the background music. If this movie was a musical comedy, I think it would be a big hit in the cinema world wide.

Overall, the movie was very entertaining. I rate it 2.5/5.
