Movie Review - Super 8

Movie Synopsis - Super 8
Movie Trailer - Super 8

The movie was really good. I was entertained from the beginning until the end. The overall mood and feel that the movie gave me at the end of the movie was quite positive. Even though the after movie feeling was good but there were some questions that came with it as well.

The flow of the movie was good. Every scenes were in order and built up of the movie was good. It started slow and progress at the right pace for the audience but I felt that it ended hastily. Suddenly the ship took form. Suddenly the water tower attracted all the metal. Suddenly water tower exploded and the ship blasted off. I need explanation.

Despite the fact that most of the actors in the movie is young, their acting were actually quite good. I was amazed by the performance of Elle Fanning, Joel Courtney and Riley Griffiths. Jas was very fascinated by the acting displayed by Riley as Charles. He really look like a director. The way he directed his crew around was simply memorable. Needless to say, Elle Fanning was the eye candy of the movie. Based on their limited experience in the movie industry, the kids in the movie actually gave the viewers a very notable performance.

Besides the acting, the scripts were quite good as well. The scripts were straigh forwards and every line was in context with the movie. I don't remember any particular line that were odd and unnecessary. Some of the scripts which I deem unnecessary somehow were complimented later in the movie.

Most of the movies these days always have this problem. Some of the scenes were not explained. Some parts of the movie will always remained mysterious to the audience. Super 8 also had this issue. Some of it I've mention earlier; The ship suddenly took form and the water tower exploded. Here's a few more; Why the cemetery? What did the creature do to Woodward that he can sacrifice himself for it? How did Woodward survive the crash? The train was blown up into pieces but Woodward was still in one piece. Why didn't Woodward just kill himself with the gun if he knew that Nelec was going to kill him anyway? It was told in the movie that the air force took the tracks of the car tyres but I don't see them tracking down any car. Okay... I think I better stop. The list will just go on and on.

Anyway, there was something in the movie that I really like. I fall for the trick again and again. Whoever that came up with that idea must really be a genius in movie making. If you noticed, in all the scene where the creature suddenly popped out and make us jump were when we were paying attention to the dialogues. While we had our ears anticipating for an answer, the creature jumped out and scared the hell out of us. I fell for the trick twice in the movie. URGH!

Overall rating for the movie. 3/5. A movie worth watching in the cinema.
