Movie Synopsis - Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides

The movie opens with Captain Jack Sparrow (Johnny Depp) impersonating the judge to save his former first mate, Joshamee Gibbs (Kevin McNally) from being sentence to hang. However, his plan failed and both of them were captured again. He then revealed to Gibbs that he travels to London to find out the person who has been impersonating him to recruit a crew for a voyage to locate the legendary Fountain of Youth. Jack was brought to see King George II (Richard Griffiths), who wanted him to guide an expedition to the Fountain. He must reached the fountain before the Spanish.  Jack's old nemesis, Captain Hector Barbossa (Geoffrey Rush), now a privateer in service to the British Navy was elected as the captain of the ship. When Captain Barbossa met Jack Sparrow, he told him that he lost The Black Pearl, as well as one of his leg. Using his wits, Jack escaped and he bumped into his father, Captain Teague (Keith Richards), who warned Jack about the Fountain's test.

Later that night, Jack discovered that the impostor who was recruting a crew is Angelica (Penélope Cruz), his former lover and daughter of the pirate Blackbeard (Ian McShane). Jack was forced to join Blackbeard's crew and to lead them to the Fountain. Meanwhile, Gibbs, who memorized, then destroyed the map to the Fountain of Youth, made a deal with Barbossa to lead him and his crew to the Fountain.

While on Blackbeard's ship, the Queen Anne's Revenge, Jack found out that the need 2 items in order for the magic of the fountain to work.  The need a drop of mermaid's tear and two silver chalices once belonged to Juan Ponce de León.  Both the cup must be filled with the water from the fountain. The person who drink from the chalice containing a mermaid's tear has their life extended, while the other person years of life will be drained from their body. Blackbeard wanted to use the Fountain's power to prolong his life because there was a premonition that Blackbeard will die in the hand of a one-legged man. The ship then headed towards Whitecap Bay.

At Whitecap Bay, Blackbeard came out with a plan to lure the mermaids out by placing his crew as baits. He succeeded in luring the mermaids out and he managed to trap Syrena (Àstrid Bergès-Frisbey), a mermaid that Philip Swift (Sam Claflin), a captive missionary, falls in love with.  Blackbeard then sent Sparrow to get the chalices from de León's grounded ship.

When Sparrow arrived, he was surprised to find Barbossa there. Both of them were too late because the Spanish had already taken the chalices. Barbossa's revealed to Jack that he only wanted a revenge against Blackbeard who took the Black Pearl and forcing him to amputate his own leg to escape. He and Jack then came out with a plan to defeat Blackbeard. Both of them went to the Spanish camp and stole the chalices.

Meanwhile, Blackbeard found out that Syrena also fell in love with Philip. He pretended that he slit Philip's throat but Syrena didn't cry. Blackbeard then took Philip's "dead" body away. Later that night, Philip regained consciousness and went back to find Syrena. Upon seeing Philip, Syrena was overwhelm with happiness that she shed a tear. Blackbeard's men quickly gush out and took the tear. Philip begged Blackbeard to let Syrena go but the heartless Blackbeard insisted to tie her up and torture her to death when the sun rised in the morning. Blackbeard then forced Philip to go with him.

Sparrow returned with the chalices and Gibbs. Jack haggled with Blackbeard to return his  magical compass and to free Gibbs in exchange for the chalices. He will lead them to the Fountain as well. Blackbeard agreed and Gibbs departed with Jack's compass.

At the Fountain, Blackbeard and his crew were attacked by Barbossa. Soon, the Spanish arrived as well. The Spanish were sent by their king to destroy the Fountain. A battle begin. The Spanish managed to destroy the fountain. During the battle, Barbossa managed to stab Blackbeard with a poison-laced sword but Angelica was also wounded by it.

Meanwhile, Philip who was wounded, ran back to rescue Syrena. Syrena went to the place where the fountain was and found the chalices which was earlier tossed into deep water by the Spanish. She gave the chalices to Sparrow. Sparrow then quickly put in the mermaid's tear and filled both the cup. He offered both the chalices to Blackbeard and Angelica. Angelica intended to sacrifice herself for her father but Sparrow tricked them. Angelica drank the chalice with the mermaid's tear. Blackbeard was killed and Angelica survived.

After passing the chalices to Sparrow, Syrena went back to Philip and forced him to beg her to save him. He did and she took him underwater to heal him. Barbossa took Blackbeard's magical sword and took control of Blackbeard's crew. Jack took Angelica to an island and left her stranded there. Even though they love each other but Jack knew that she might avenge for her father's death. Jack then went back to find Gibbs. He used Sparrow's compass to locate the Black Pearl and took all the captured ships that Blackbeard had magically shrunk and bottled. The two then headed off to find a way to return The Black Pearl to its original size.

In the post-credits scene, Angelica found Sparrow's voodoo doll.
