The movie was a tale about a young small-town waitress, Ali Rose (Christina Aguilera) who possessed an extraordinary strong voice and very good at dancing. She quitted her job and moved to Los Angeles to change her quality of life. She went all over town to look for jobs in Los Angeles. That night, she went home and found out that her room was ransacked. She was devastated.

In her final attempt, she went into a bar name Burlesque. When she entered and saw a whole performance, Ali got very excited with the whole concept. Ali befriended the bartender Jack (Cam Gigandet) and started off as a waitress in the bar. She was waiting for her opportunity to proof that she was worthy of performing on the stage. She tried to persuade the owner, Tess (Cher), to let her go on stage but Tess just gave her a cold shoulder. Ali also tried to approach Tess's gay best friend and assistant, Sean (Stanley Tucci) to persuade Tess to give her an opportunity to perform. Meanwhile, after being rob, she had no money to rent the room anymore. Jack who got to know the problem, offered to share his apartment with her.

One day, Ali opportunity came and she went for the audition. Tess needed a new dancer to replace pregnant dancer, Georgia (Julianne Hough). Ali audition went well and Tess hired her. One night, Nikki (Kristen Bell), the most famous dancer in Burlesque came to work in a drunk state. Tess asked her to go home and Ali took her place. Angry over the boss's decision, Nikki stopped the music while Ali was singing halfway. Ali sang on without the music. She impressed everyone with her own powerful voice. She shocked everyone including Tess. Ali shot to fame instantly.

A successful businessman, Marcus (Eric Dane) was interested in Ali but Ali treated him like a good friend. Meanwhile, she eventually fell in love with Jack who was by her side all the time during her difficult days. Little did the dancers know that the bar was running out of money. Tess was worried that she had to sell the bar to Marcus. Marcus told Ali that he intended to tear down the club and built a skyscraper. One fine day, Ali found out something called the air rights. She told it to Tess and finally, Tess solved the bar money issue by selling the air rights of the bar to another businessman. Ali helped Tess overcame her financial crisis and stayed on at Burlesque as the most attractive star!
