Movie Trailer - Green Lantern
Millions of years ago, long before the Earth was made, a group of beings known as The Guardians of the Universe created an intergalactic police force called the Green Lantern Corps. The Green Lantern Corps were powered by the green essence of willpower that provided them with great powers to protect the universe. The universe were splitted into 3,600 sectors, with one Green Lantern per sector.
One of The Guardians voted against the rest and insisted that they should used the yellow essence of fear power instead. In order to proof himself to the other Guardians that he can control the yellow essence of fear, he went to confront the fear power and the fear power took control of him. He became Parallax. Abin Sur (Temuera Morrison) of Sector 2814, notably the best Green Lantern, defeated Parallax (voiced by Clancy Brown) and imprisoned him in the Lost Sector (Sector 666) on the ruined planet Ryut. However, in the present day, Parallax killed four Green Lanterns and escaped from his prison. Parallax then traveled to Sector 2814 and wounded Abin Sur. Abin Sur managed to escapes and landed on Earth. The dying Abin Sur commanded his ring to find a worthy successor on the planet Earth.
Meanwhile, Ferris Aircraft test pilot Hal Jordan (Ryan Reynolds) was on his way home after a near to death experience during his test flight was picked up by the ring. He was transported to Abin Sur. Abin Sur appointed him as a Green Lantern, his successor to bear his ring. Abin Sur told Hal to take the lantern and say the oath. Soon, Abin Sur passed away and authorities arrived. Hal took the lantern and ran way, leaving Abin Sur's body behind.
When he reached home, he said the oath of the Green Lantern. Just as he finished the oath, Carol Ferris (Blake Lively) came to find him. Not wanting her to see the lantern, he took her out for a drink. When he left the bar, he was attacked by three guys. Out of rage, Hal swung a punch towards one of his attackers. He let out a huge fist of green energy that instantly knocked out all three guys. Shocked over his new obtained ability, before he could react to it, he was transported to the Green Lantern Corps home, Planet of Oa. As soon as he reached Oa, he was transformed into a Green Lantern. He met his trainer, Tomar-Re (voiced by Geoffrey Rush) and Kilowog (voiced by Michael Clarke Duncan). Corps leader Sinestro (Mark Strong), who was not pleased that he is a human which is a primitive race as compared to other species has become a Green Lantern. Moreover, he is bearing the ring of the legendary Abin Sur. Sinestro confronted Hal and criticized him of being unworthy and fearful. Hal announced that he quits and returned to planet Earth. He kept the power ring and the lantern.
Meanwhile, scientist Hector Hammond (Peter Sarsgaard) was summoned to a secret government facility to performs an autopsy on Abin Sur's body. During the autopsy, a small piece of Parallax's fear power energy entered him. Overnight, he was mutated and he earn telepathy and telekinetic powers. Soon, he discovered that it was his father, Senator Robert Hammond (Tim Robbins) that suggested to have him do the autopsy. Hammond attempted to kill his father by crashing his helicopter at a party. However, Hal used his new found ability to save the senator and all the party guests - including his childhood sweetheart, Carol Ferris. One evening, Hal went to visit Carol in his suit and mask. The moment she saw him, she instantly recognized him as Hal.
The Senator found out about the mutated Hector and tried to help him reversed back the effect but they couldn't hold him down due to his new ability. Hal came to the rescue but Hector was too strong. He burned the Senator alive. Hal who also had the telepathy ability found out from Hector that Parallax was on his way to Earth.
Back in Oa, the Guardians told Sinestro that Parallax was originally one of the Guardians, Krona. After much discussion, they concluded that the only way to fight fear was by fear itself. Sinestro requested the Guardians to forge a ring of yellow power. However, Hal appeared and told Sinestro not to use the yellow ring. He asked the Corps to help him protect his planet from Parallax. They denied his request but Jordan returned home believing that he could protect his home planet.
Upon returning to Earth, Hal saved Carol from Hector. Hector tried to inject her with Parallax's energy but Hal tricked him into taking his ring in exchanged for Carol. He wore the ring but nothing happen. The distracted Hector was defeated by Hal and Hal explained to Hector that only the chosen one will have the powers. Soon, Parallax arrived. Parallax labeled Hector as useless because he failed to kill Hal. Parallax then consumed Hector's life force. Parallax went to town and started his invasion. Hal lured Parallax away from Earth and towards the Sun. Hal used the Sun's gravity to pull and disintegrated Parallax. After the battle, he lost consciousness and was falling into the sun but Sinestro, Kilowog and Tomar-Re came to rescue him. He went back to Planet Oa and the entire Green Lantern Corps congratulated him for his bravery and found him worthy for bearing the ring of Abin Sur.
In the post-credit scene, Sinestro took the yellow ring and puts it on.
