Movie Synopsis - Source Code

The movie starts off with Captain Colter Stevens (Jake Gyllenhaal), an army helicopter pilot who was in  a mission to locate the maker of a bomb which exploded and destroyed a train heading into Chicago. Stevens was trapped inside a chamber, where Air Force Captain Colleen Goodwin (Vera Farmiga) told that he is inside the Source Code.

Source Code is a program that allowed him to take over someone's body in his or her last eight minutes of life. In the chamber, Captain Colter Stevens can only communicate with Goodwin through a computer screen. During the mission, for each time he failed to locate the bomb, the bomb will detonate, he will have to go back to the chamber and restart his mission. Goodwin and the Source Code's creator, Dr. Rutledge (Jeffrey Wright), tell him that the Source Code is not a simulation, but he was sent back to the last 8 mins of a person's life so that he could stop the bombing from happening. Stevens can perform different actions each time in order to locate the bomb but he was told that he can't change history or to save any of the passengers because the passengers were already dead.

Every time he was sent into the train, he waked up as Sean Fentress, a teacher, sitting across from a woman named Christina Warren (Michelle Monaghan). He tried to explain to Christina that he is not Sean Fentress but she finds it too bizarre to believe.

After being sent back as Sean Fentress for several time, he managed to locate the bomb in the ventilation shaft above the bathroom. Each time he learns more and also slowly, he found himself falling for Christina. At the same time, Stevens couldn't remember how he got into the mission but eventually with the help of Christina, he discovered that he died in the war two months ago.

He also found out that the bomber is Derek Frost (Michael Arden). He followed Frost to a white van where the bomb was hidden. When he confronted Frost, Frost shot him and also Christina but he was able to gather enough info to inform Goodwin and Rutledge that Frost is the bomber. The authorities were able to capture Frost and save Chicago before the second bomb detonate.

With the mission accomplished, Rutledge wanted to erase Stevens memory and keep him in the chamber for further missions in future. But Stevens managed to persuade Goodwin to send him back one last time because he believed that he can stop the train disaster from happening. Goodwin agreed that he should be allowed to fulfil his last request and died in peace.

After Goodwin sent Stevens back, she went to the chamber and she saw Stevens' severely injured body. She waited for 8 minutes before she unplugging him from Source Code. With the information he managed to gather from his previous visits into the Source Code, Stevens was able to defuse the bomb and apprehended Frost before he can detonate the bomb and destroyed the train. Frost is arrested and the people on the train are saved. Stevens and Christina kissed in the last seconds before Goodwin pull the plug at the eight-minute mark.

As Stevens requested, Goodwin turned off his life support but to Stevens' surprise, his mind remained in Sean Fentress' body. He safely left the train with Christina and the rest of the passengers. He sent an email to Goodwin, telling her how the bomb was defuse and how Source Code worked by connecting two realities.
